Certified
Craftsmen LLC performs chimney inspections and
evaluations throughout Monmouth, Ocean, and Southern
Middlesex counties. We evaluate the chimneys condition based upon NFPA 211 standards.
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) presented its first report and guidelines in 1906. The field practice manual was adopted in 1914.
It has many amended dozens of times since to meet
today's current standards. It is very important that
these guidelines be followed to help reduce the hazards
associated with fireplace, woodstove, and fuel-burning
appliance use within the home or building.
Many
times our company is
called for an inspection when the homeowner actually
notices a problem such as having a chimney fire, a leak,
smoke coming in the house, structural failure, loose
bricks/mortar etc. When the customer waits until these
problems arise, many times significant damage has
already occurred. With proper yearly maintenance and
inspections many of these costly problems can be
avoided. All of our cleanings come with a NFPA 211
Level one inspection.
Our
company is also called out during real estate
transactions to certify that a chimney or flue is
suitable for use. Sometimes the seller knows of existing
problems and still insists that our company certify the
flue or chimney for use. Obviously that would be a
horribly irresponsible mistake for any chimney company
and could be very hazardous for the buyer. It would also
wind up with the seller and inspection company in court.
When we are called out for an inspection, we conduct an
unbiased inspection/evaluation based upon the condition
of the chimney and flue liner.
There are
different Levels of inspection according to the NFPA 211
standard. We conduct a NFPA Level 2 inspection for real
estate transactions.
