There over
15,800 reported dryer vent fires per year. The lint in a dirty dryer vent and heat from a dryer during use is a
dangerous mixture. Still today we find dryer vents
hooked up using hazardous plastic
connector (see below) hoses meant only to vent bathroom exhaust. During a dryer vent fire this hose quickly melts
exposing house framing and walls to open flames.
An
improperly installed and dirty dryer vent is not only
hazardous, it is also highly inefficient. Many customers
say they have to run their dryer two or three times for
one load of laundry. They can't understand why the
dryer used to work fine and now doesn't. Most times the
reason is the dryer vent being dirty and/or deteriorated.
To save
money on your utility bill and help prevent a dryer fire
have a trained technician clean and evaluate your dryer
venting at least once a year.
Example of a scorched rim joist; the result of a
dryer vent fire. The heat burned a hole in
the plastic connector pipe, which the homeowner
repaired with duct tape-- very dangerous!
